Sam Mashaw, LMSW

Connecticut Telehealth Team (She/They)

I’m Sam Mashaw, a clinical social worker committed to helping you cultivate the self-confidence and self-compassion to step into your wholeness. We live in a society that often seems designed to keep us small, keep us scared, and keep us doubting ourselves. As a social worker, I consider how social context–historical, present, personal, and systemic–may be influencing the stories you have about yourself, your relationships, and the possibilities for your life. The truth of you is so much richer than any social statistic can convey. The truth is this: the world needs YOU, your unique gifts and perspective. Whatever you’re going through, I am here to help you tap into your innate strengths and wisdom to navigate life in ways that honor your authentic self.

I have clinical experience supporting clients with a variety of emotional and social challenges including life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, and relational issues with family and peers including bullying, isolation, and divorce. I have a passion for supporting LGBTQIA clients and their families, as well as for supporting young adults as they undertake the important work of individuating and visioning their futures. I employ an eclectic mix of therapeutic styles to support you in a holistic manner. I am trained in psychodynamic therapy and may incorporate elements of IFS, CBT, narrative therapy, MI, mindfulness, and somatic techniques in our work together. Whatever we do together, your personal goals and wishes will be at the center. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, both as a site of emotional support but also as a place to try out new communication styles and ways of being. Creating an environment in which you feel seen and safe to be your full, authentic, and richly complex self is my priority. Every part of you is lovable and important, and I look forward to meeting them all!
