Myshala Wilson, LPC

Connecticut Telehealth Team (She/Her)

Hi! I am Myshala Wilson, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a passion for creating a safe place for people to be themselves. Often we are overwhelmed by the changes of life and need a space where we can be free of expectations, judgment, responsibilities, and oppressions. My focus is supporting people through different phases of their life and helping them grow. Every person wants to be heard and feel like their experiences matter. From children to adults, we are bombarded with so many experiences as a result of our race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and religion. Our different experiences and needs should matter in the therapy we receive. My goal is to work with my clients as a team and help them feel encouraged to make change and be empowered in their decisions.

I have worked with different groups of individuals with focus on substance use, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and transitions in life. I have past experience working with teens and young adults with co-occurring disorders. I use multi-systemic therapy to identify how all the areas in clients' lives fit together and collaborate with my clients to develop a plan. Often l use my clients values and strengths to encourage them and use cognitive-behavioral therapy to address any negative thoughts they may have about themselves. I understand change can be hard and even frightening at times, so it is important I go at my client’s pace and use motivational interviewing as a therapy tool to help “go with the flow.”

I believe laughter and finding moments of joy help in the healing/growing process. My role as a therapist is to help my clients experience the joys of life and to be encouraged; whether it is a warm smile, well wishes in the beginning of a busy week, a moment of silence to help them catch their breath, or a goofy joke. Therapy is not a race but a walk we take together.
